DK2020 - Climate plans for Denmark
This is the first time that the C40 standard is being used by and further developed for use in smaller cities and municipalities. Thus, the DK2020 municipalities are writing international climate history.
In DK2020, Danish municipalities are following in the footsteps of C40 cities and developing ambitious climate action plans in line with the Paris Agreement. 96 of the 98 Danish municipalities are part of the DK2020 network.
The project provides technical assistance and support to municipalities to develop climate action plans that meet the C40 Climate Action Planning Framework. The climate action plans focus on all sectors within the municipalities' geographical area and will define how the municipalities will become climate neutral and climate resilient by at latest 2050. Five geographical organizations consisting of professional staff from Local Government Denmark (KL), the five Danish regions and local operators assist the municipalities with advice and sparring on the climate action plans.
Background
In 2019, 20 municipalities became part of the DK2020 pilot project. In autumn 2020, a further 44 municipalities joined the larger project DK2020 - Climate Plans for All of Denmark, and in autumn 2021, a further 31 municipalities joined.
The Municipality of Copenhagen is not part of DK2020 as they are members of C40 and already have a Paris compatible climate plan.
