The Land use of Denmark - the future of Denmark

Land use is central to the green transition. In this report, we look at future land use needs and identify some of the challenges and dilemmas we face.

We need to use land for energy, infrastructure and food production. At the same time, we need to better protect biodiversity, adapt Denmark to climate change and incorporate human well-being into land use.

In other words, future land use must be able to do many things at the same time. Space is limited and landscapes are already in use. Therefore, a coherent strategy is needed to ensure that all the right societal goals are met.

This report is the first step towards creating a vision for the future of land use. The report takes stock of Danish land use today, what challenges lie ahead in the coming years, and suggests possible future scenarios for a climate-neutral and climate-resilient land use that also provides good living conditions for human, animal and plant life.
