Cecilie Friis

Senior Advisor, Climate Future Lab

Cecilie works as a senior advisor in CONCITOs Climate Laboratory focusing on creating new solutions and developing new policies within the planetary boundaries. 

Cecilie has a MSc degree in Geography & Geoinformatics from the University of Copenhagen and holds a Ph.D. in Human Geography from the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. 

Before joining CONCITO, Cecilie has done research on land use change, globalization and sustainability with a particular focus on distal connections in consumption and production of land-based products. In her previous position as an Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen, she also taught topics on land-use change and climate change.

    Last fall, a group of international top scientists presented the latest update on the status of the “planetary boundaries” (Richardson et al., 2023), concluding that we have now exceeded six out of the nine boundaries that collectively maintain a stable Earth system. The planetary boundaries present a scientific health check for climate, biodiversity, marine environment, and a range of other biophysical systems that together support life on Earth.
