The potential for Carbon Capture and Storage in Denmark

Carbon capture and Storage (CCS) in Denmark can provide important emission reductions towards 2030 by capturing and storing CO2 from emission sources that are difficult to avoid.

CONCITO’s analyses shows that waste incineration plants, biogas plants and some industrial processes provide reasonable and sustainable sources for carbon capture in Denmark. These sources can contribute with up to 1 Mt CO2 reductions in 2026 and at least 5 Mt in 2030. To reach this potential, a combination of carbon taxes and subsidies for negative emissions is necessary combined with an effective implementation plan.
